KATRA: The UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, successfully conducted an online refresher course on “AI & ML Techniques: Concepts, Applications & Sustainable Development.” The course was organized to provide in-depth knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques and their role in real-world applications across various domains and sustainable development.
Through expert lectures, hands-on sessions, and interactive discussions, participants will gain practical insights into AI & ML-driven innovations, fostering interdisciplinary research and enhancing their teaching and professional skills. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members across the country. A total of 166 participants registered through the official UGC-MMTTC portal, representing states such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Tripura, Delhi, and Chandigarh.
This wide geographical representation reflects the growing academic interest and increasing relevance of AI & ML techniques in teaching and research communities nationwide. The refresher course focused on several key themes, including AI & ML: Fundamentals and Applications, AI & ML Tools & Frameworks, AI-Based Problem-Solving Techniques, Advanced Topics & Research Directions in AI & ML, Real World Applications of AI & ML, Soft Computing Applications, and Impact of AI & ML on Sustainable Development.
The inaugural session commenced with an enthusiastic virtual gathering of participants and eminent speakers. Dr. Tirumalasetty Chiranjeevi, Associate Professor, School of Electrical Engineering, and Programme Coordinator, formally welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance and objectives of the refresher course. This was followed by an address by Prof. Supran K. Sharma, Director, UGC-MMTTC, SMVDU, who provided an overview of the MMTTC initiatives at SMVDU. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Pragati Kumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, for his unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement, which were instrumental in the successful execution of the program. Prof. Sharada M. Potukuchi, Deputy Director, UGC-MMTTC, SMVDU, highlighted the various academic activities organized under the MMTTC banner and shared insights into future programs. She appreciated the efforts of the program coordinator, Dr. Tirumalasetty Chiranjeevi, for initiating this important academic endeavor to enrich participants’ understanding of diverse areas of AI & ML techniques.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tirumalasetty Chiranjeevi. The online refresher course was structured with four sessions per day, each of 1.5 hours duration. The program featured lectures by several eminent and distinguished resource persons from IITs, NITs, IIITs, Central and State Universities, international universities from the UK and UAE, and other reputed institutes. In the concluding session, Dr. Tirumalasetty Chiranjeevi, Coordinator, presented a comprehensive overview of the program, summarizing the wide range of topics addressed by distinguished scientists, academicians, and experts. He expressed the hope that the participants had found the sessions engaging and had gained valuable insights into various aspects of AI & ML techniques. Through the successful completion of this refresher course, the UGC-MMTTC at SMVDU has once again reaffirmed its pivotal role in advancing national academic goals by empowering faculty members through continuous professional development and knowledge enhancement.
