JAMMU: The School of Physics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized an insightful academic visit to the Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences (SDCSS), Central University of Jammu, located in Samba. The visit brought together a group of enthusiastic undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with faculty members, aiming to enhance their understanding of space science through real-world exposure.

The primary objective of the visit was to familiarize students with advanced research infrastructure and ongoing scientific work in the domain of space science and technology. The initiative also sought to promote academic interaction between institutions and encourage students to explore research-oriented career paths. During the visit, participants were given the opportunity to explore some of the key facilities at SDCSS.

Notably, the Vikram Sarabhai Ground Station and Space Laboratory provided insights into satellite communication systems, data acquisition, and space-based technologies. Additionally, the High-End Characterization Laboratory showcased advanced instruments used for material analysis and research, allowing students to connect theoretical concepts with their practical applications.

The visit included informative discussions and interactions with experts, which helped students gain a deeper understanding of current research trends and technological advancements in space science. Observing sophisticated equipment and laboratory setups firsthand made the experience particularly impactful, reinforcing concepts studied in Physics and related disciplines. Such academic engagements play a crucial role in bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical implementation. The visit not only enhanced students’ technical awareness but also inspired many to consider pursuing higher studies and research in space science and allied fields.

The visit was coordinated from SMVDU by Dr. Pankaj Biswas, with valuable support from co-coordinators Dr. Varun Pandey and Dr. Jitendra Sharma. Prof. R.K. Jha (Convener), Prof. Kamni Pathania (Co-Convener), Ms. Mehak (Coordinator), and the entire team of staff and research scholars of SDCSS, CUJ provide their warm hospitality, generous support, and excellent organization of this academic visit. Dr. Biswas, on behalf of all the participants of the visit, extends his heartfelt gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar for his unwavering support and encouragement in the organization of such academic visits, which significantly contribute to the academic enrichment and overall development of the students of SMVDU.
