SHOPIAN: To commemorate ‘World Toilet Day,’ the Department of Rural Development Shopian today organized a function to felicitate sanitation workers and launch an awareness campaign on safe and hygienic toilet access titled ‘Hamara Shauchalay Hamara Saamman.’ The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar presided over the function.
In this connection, a campaign commenced from today, November 19 and shall continue till December 10, celebrated as Human Rights Day, since access to safe and hygienic toilets is intrinsically linked to human rights. Felicitation of sanitation workers for their tireless efforts, awareness campaign on the importance of safe and hygienic toilets, identification and bridging of gaps in sanitation infrastructure shall be some major features of the campaign.
The campaign aims to improve sanitation facilities, hygiene practices, enhance community awareness about sanitation and human rights and recognize sanitation workers' contributions. “On World Toilet Day, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring dignified lives for all. Sanitation workers are unsung heroes; we honor their dedication,” said DC while felicitating the workers.
Today's event was preceded by the meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSM) held yesterday on the issue where departments were asked to identify gaps in existing sanitation infrastructure for redressal. The function was also attended by ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone; ADC, Dr.Zakir Hussain Faaz; ACD, DPO and other officers and officials of Rural Development department.
