KATRA: Ms. Palveen Kour, a student pursuing Integrated B.Sc. (Hons.)-M.Sc. in Biotechnology at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, successfully delivered an Oral Presentation at the International Conference on Science Innovation, Emerging Technologies & Management for Viksit Bharat @2047, organized by Sunrise Institute of Engineering & Management, Unnao and funded by Council of Science & Technology, Lucknow on 28th March, 2026.
During the conference, Ms. Palveen Kour delivered an Oral Presentation through virtual mode entitled “From Morphology to Medicine: Unveiling the Regenerative and Therapeutic Potential of Costus igneus”, focusing on the medicinal importance and biotechnological potential of this important medicinal plant. The study highlighted the plant’s rich phytochemical composition, including flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolics, and terpenoids, which contribute to its antidiabetic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.
The work also emphasized the development of an in vitro regeneration potential of Costus igneus, demonstrating its significance in rapid propagation, conservation, and production of disease-free plantlets under controlled conditions. Ms. Palveen Kour is currently pursuing her B.Sc. (Hons.) Research at SMVDU under the guidance of Prof. Sharada M. Potukuchi and expressed her sincere gratitude to her supervisor for constant guidance, motivation, and academic support.
She also acknowledged the support and research environment provided by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, which facilitated the successful completion of this work.
