The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. KISHTWAR: Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Kumar Shavan today reviewed and assessed the progress on Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) works in Kishtwar and Marwah, ensuring timely execution and quality of road projects.

During the meeting, the DC took stock of ongoing PMGSY road construction works, including Shahsu-Sazar Road, Kandani-Ohli Road and Ikhala Block Boundary to Lopara Road. The concerned officers apprised him of the latest progress and challenges faced in the execution of these projects.

A special discussion was held on the Shivas to Ongaie Road, particularly regarding its take-up point from the GREF road. The Officer Commanding (OC) GREF was advised to ensure proper demarcation and pegging at the take-up point, facilitating the encumbrance-free completion of the road project.

The Executive Engineer PMGSY and contractors were directed to remove debris from take off point of GREF Road within 7 days. Executive Engineers were instructed to submit a comprehensive list of ongoing PMGSY roads, along with details of contractors and payment records for round maintenance.

The DC emphasized the importance of identifying and enlisting unconnected habitations for inclusion under PMGSY Phase 4, ensuring better road connectivity for remote areas.  Additionally, the meeting deliberated on road safety measures and maintenance of PMGSY roads, particularly under the Disaster Management Preparedness Plan following the recent snowfall.  The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer (CPO) Kishtwar, Shahnawaz Bali, Executive Engineers PMGSY and other concerned engineers.
