- MLA, DC inaugurate mega event; People assured of comprehensive support from Seed to Market
RAJOURI: Member of Legislative Assembly Rajouri Iftikhar Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav today inaugurated a Farmers’ Fair organised by the Agriculture Department under the ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency) Scheme.
The fair witnessed participation of a large number of farmers, farmer organisations, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Agriculture experts, officials from various departments and media representatives.
The FPOs, FOs and Self-Help Groups showcased their products at the exhibition organised on the occasion. The stalls displayed locally produced agricultural products, organic fertilisers, natural farming inputs and a variety of value-added products.
The Farmers learnt about product quality, manufacturing processes, utility and marketing opportunities. The locally developed products highlighted the potential for establishing successful agricultural enterprises in rural areas, provided farmers receive adequate technical guidance, training and market support.
MLA Iftikhar Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav inspected the exhibition organised by the stakeholder departments and farmer organisations. They appreciated farm tools, innovative agricultural techniques and agricultural enterprises being developed at the local level.
Many Agricultural experts shared their views and advised farmers to adopt innovations in farming in accordance with changing agricultural trends, reduce production costs and make better use of available resources. The interaction with experts provided farmers with an opportunity to discuss their problems and seek practical solutions.
The speakers advised farmers to follow market trends as increasing production alone is not sufficient to enhance farm income. “Ensuring product quality, packaging, branding and access to markets is equally important,” they emphasised. The Farmers were encouraged to establish agriculture-based enterprises by availing benefits of various government schemes.
The Agriculture, Horticulture and other allied departments informed farmers about crop diversification, improved seeds, modern agricultural machinery, horticultural activities, conservation of natural resources and various techniques to enhance agricultural productivity.
it was informed that Mushroom cultivation is creating new employment opportunities in villages and encouraging farmers to move towards entrepreneurship and diversified income generation.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav noted that the district has immense potential in agriculture and allied sectors. “To transform these opportunities into sustainable income and employment, the administration will earnestly encourage and support FPOs, Fos and Self-Help Groups,” he assured. He further indicated that coordinated efforts would be made to engage rural women and youth in agriculture-based activities and empower them through self-employment opportunities.
Chief Agriculture Officer Rajesh Verma highlighted the importance of organic and natural farming. He stated that maintaining soil fertility, protecting the environment and ensuring safe food production are among the major priorities of the agricultural sector today.
Free mushroom bags were provided to two Self-Help Groups to promote mushroom cultivation at the grassroots level. The initiative aims to help these groups begin practical mushroom production and create opportunities for self-employment and income generation.
