The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

UDHAMPUR: A one-day Kissan Goshti on Commercial Floriculture was organized today by the Department of Floriculture, Parks & Gardens here at Panchayat Karrian Tannas, Block Chenani under the centrally sponsored Scheme ATMA. The event was attended by Scientist, KVK Reasi Dr. Sanjay Kaushal and Assistant Floriculture Officer Pawan Kumar along with other technical officers.

A large number of enthusiastic farmers participated in the Event, reflecting increasing public interest in exploring the sustainable income opportunities in floriculture. The event was conducted under the overall guidance of Director Floriculture, Vivek Modi and supervision of Joint Director Floriculture, Parks & Gardens Jammu Vikrant Kumar Sharma.

Addressing the gathering, the Joint Director assured the farmers of every possible support from the department, including both technical and financial assistance under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes. He encouraged farmers to adopt high-yielding flower varieties, modern techniques like drip irrigation, mulching, raised-bed farming and integrated pest management (IPM), which can enhance productivity and profitability in hilly terrains.

Dr. Sanjay Kaushal delivered an in-depth lecture, focusing on organic farming practices, suitable cropping patterns and the adoption of the latest technologies in commercial floriculture. He demonstrated scientific techniques in flower cultivation, post-harvest handling and effective marketing strategies.

The Assistant Floriculture Officer gave detailed insights into region-specific marigold cultivation including nursery management, soil health, spacing, fertilization, disease management and post-harvest care. He also highlighted the various government schemes offering financial incentives to encourage commercial floriculture among farmers. The farmers appreciated the department’s ongoing outreach and awareness initiatives and requested more such programmes in the future.
