PULWAMA: Department of Social Welfare Pulwama today celebrated International Women’s Day at Town Hall Pulwama under the theme “Give to Gain”. The programme witnessed participation from various departments, stakeholders and community members. The event was attended by the District Programme Officer, ICDS as Chief Guest and the District Social Welfare Officer, Pulwama as Guest of Honour.
On the occasion, speakers highlighted the invaluable contributions of women in the overall development of society and emphasised the need to ensure equal opportunities, dignity and empowerment for women across all sectors. They also emphasized the significance of the global theme which calls for strengthening women’s rights, ensuring justice and promoting meaningful action for the welfare and empowerment of all women and girls.
During the programme, frontline workers from different departments including Health, Mission Poshan and Social Welfare were felicitated in recognition of their dedicated services and significant role in strengthening community welfare initiatives.
In addition, several women achievers who have successfully established their livelihood units under various government initiatives such as Mission YUVA and Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana were also felicitated for their entrepreneurial efforts and contribution towards economic empowerment.
The programme also highlighted the role of various women-centric initiatives in the district, including the Sankalp: Hub for Empowerment of Women and the Sakhi One Stop Centre Pulwama, which are providing integrated support services, counselling, legal aid and protection to women in distress while promoting awareness about women-centric schemes and rights. Officers and officials from various line departments, besides ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and other frontline functionaries, were also present on the occasion.
