- AICC Member and Bharat Yatri raises concerns over unemployment, rising drug menace, poor civic infrastructure and farmersâ distress
JAMMU: Senior Congress leader, AICC Member and Bharat Yatri Shamsher Chand , today raised several burning public issues confronting the people of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, urging the government to take immediate and concrete measures to address the growing concerns of the public.
Addressing media persons, Shamsher Chand expressed serious concern over the rising unemployment among youth, stating that thousands of educated young men and women in the region are struggling to find meaningful employment opportunities. He said delays in recruitment processes, vacant government posts and lack of industrial growth have further aggravated the problem, pushing many young people into frustration and uncertainty about their future.
Shamsher also highlighted the alarming rise in drug abuse, particularly among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He termed the growing drug menace as a serious social crisis that threatens the future of the younger generation. Calling for a comprehensive strategy to tackle the issue, he stressed the need for stronger law enforcement, awareness campaigns, and expansion of de-addiction and rehabilitation facilities across the Union Territory.
The Congress leader further drew attention to deteriorating civic infrastructure, including damaged roads, poor sanitation, irregular water supply and non-functional street lighting in several urban and rural areas. He said people in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir continue to face immense hardship due to lack of basic amenities and demanded that the concerned departments ensure timely maintenance and development of public infrastructure.
Highlighting the plight of the farming community, Shamsher said farmers are facing rising input costs, unpredictable weather conditions and inadequate support mechanisms. He urged the authorities to introduce stronger measures to safeguard farmersâ interests and ensure fair returns for their produce.
Shamsher also expressed concern over the rising cost of essential commodities and fuel, which he said has put a heavy burden on common people. He emphasized that inflation has severely affected the purchasing power of ordinary households, making it difficult for many families to meet their daily needs. Reaffirming his commitment to public service, Shamsher said he would continue to raise the voice of the people and highlight their concerns at every appropriate platform. He urged the administration to adopt a people-centric approach and work sincerely towards resolving the pressing issues faced by the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
