JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party J&K today called upon Traffic Police and Jammu Municipal Corporation to undertake Public awareness campaign before issuing Challans to public for violation of Red Light.
In a Press Statement issued today Adv Parimoksh Seth Spokesperson BJP J&K called upon the authorities mainly IG traffic police J&K and commissioner Jammu Municipal corporation to conduct a comprehensive public awareness campaign before initiating strict challaning for red-light violations.
Seth said that Traffic Lights were dis functional from last few years and due to passage of time zebra crossings and demarcation lines of crossings have faded away. Recently the maintenance of most of the traffic lights has been handed over to Jammu Municipal corporation. The people are unaware about working of Traffic lights and now all of sudden without undertaking public awareness campaign and without redrawing Zebra lines and demarcation line, the traffic police has started issuing challans to public.
Seth said that in many areas near traffic light large tress have covered traffic lights making them invisible for general public. It is the duty of Traffice police and Jammu Municipal corporation to make traffic lights clearly visible without any hindrance and to redraw zeebra crossings and demarcation lines.
Seth further said that road safety is a shared responsibility between concerned authorities and the public. Many commuters may not yet be fully aware of newly installed traffic lights, restarting of traffic lights, changed traffic patterns,l and updated enforcement measures.
Seth said that a dedicated awareness drive through local media, social platforms, roadside signage, and community outreach programs, re-drawing of Zebra crossings and demarcation lines, making traffic lights fully visible without any hindrance and display of timers of traffic lights will help educate general public about the importance of obeying traffic signals.
Seth said that such campaigns can play a vital role in preventing accidents, improving traffic discipline, and fostering a culture of responsible driving. Informing the public beforehand will ensure that enforcement measures are perceived as fair, transparent, and aimed at public safety rather than penalties alone. BJP called upon authorities to give sufficient time to public to adapt to the rules after undertaking proper public awareness campaign.
