POONCH: The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) District Centre Poonch on Tuesday organized an awareness camp at Government Higher Secondary School Lasana under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.

The programme was organized to sensitize students and the general public about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The programme was inaugurated by Member Legislative Assembly Surankote Chaudhary Mohammad Akram, who attended the event as the chief guest.

Among others present on the occasion were SDM Surankote Farooq Khan, District Information Officer Asaf Ali, Block Development Officer Lassana Qadeer Charak, SHO Surankote Abid Bukhari, Principal Government Higher Secondary School Lasana Barkat Hussain, staff members, locals and civil society members.

The artists from Saraswati Sangeet Kala Kendra presented a variety of cultural performances, featuring Gojri, Pahari, Hindi and Punjabi songs. A special skit highlighting the ill effects of drug abuse was also presented, which was widely appreciated by the audience.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA highlighted the serious social and health consequences of drug abuse and urged students, youth and the general public to join hands to eradicate the menace. He also appealed to people to immediately inform the police if they come across any drug peddler or addict in their area.

The SDM Surankote urged students and the public to actively participate in such awareness programmes. He emphasized the important role of religious institutions and community platforms in spreading awareness against drug abuse.

Pamphlets and posters highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of a drug-free society were also distributed among the students and members of the public to further spread awareness.

A pledge-taking ceremony against drug abuse was also held during the programme. Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Lasana presented the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the MLA, district administration and Information Department for organizing the awareness programme aimed at educating students and the public about the dangers of drug abuse.
