SRINAGAR:  The Gen Bipin Rawat Fencing Championship, organized by the Vajr Division under Operation Sadbhavana in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Fencing Association (JKFA), concluded today at the Vajr Fencing Node, Maidan-e-Azam, Kupwara, with an inspiring showcase of young talent, discipline and sportsmanship.

Held from 03 to 05 October 2025, the championship saw participation from 08 districts across Jammu & Kashmir, featuring a total of 136 fencers, including 26 women athletes, competing in 22 events across both individual and team categories. The event reflected the region’s growing enthusiasm and skill in the sport of fencing.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Commander, 28 Artillery Brigade, as the Chief Guest, who congratulated all participants for their dedication and spirited performances.

Prominent guests included Ms. Supriya Singh Chauhan, Secretary General, Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Associationand Mr. Rashid Ahmed, International Fencer and Referee. Both dignitaries addressed the gathering, commending the world-class infrastructure at the Vajr Fencing Node and encouraging the young fencers to continue pursuing excellence with passion and national pride.

In the final results, Team Udhampur emerged as the Champion, while Team Kupwara secured the Runner-Up position, winning accolades from the audience for their competitive performance and team spirit.

Dedicated to the memory of Late General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, the championship celebrated his vision of leadership, disciplineand unity, values that continue to inspire the youth of the nation.

This regional championship marks another milestone in the Indian Army’s continued efforts to empower the youth of Jammu & Kashmir through sports, fostering confidence, resilience and teamwork.
