- DC calls for continuity & strengthening government interventions towards women upliftment
SHOPIAN: The Department of Social Welfare Shopian today organized a series of activities to celebrate the 10-years of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme. The celebration started with a seminar held at Conference Hall Shopian to discuss the importance of girl child education, protection and empowerment. The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar.
Speakers on the occasion highlighted the women-led and women-for, key government initiative of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and other initiatives besides the noteworthy achievements achieved through the flagship initiative. Shahid Saleem provided a comprehensive outline of the government efforts in alleviating the suffering of the womenfolk and called out for breaking societal stereotypes associated with women emancipation and upliftment.
The gathering was also addressed by DDC members, women speakers from education and SHEW. The DC also led Pledge-taking ceremony where all stakeholders took a pledge to promote girls' education and protection, and to work towards creating a safe and supportive environment for girls.
Thereafter, a signature campaign was launched to raise awareness about the importance of girls' education. The celebration concluded with a cycle rally and felicitation ceremony for girls participants. These celebrations serve as a reminder of the progress made so far in promoting girls' education and empowerment while also highlighting the need for continued efforts to address the challenges that still exist. The events were attended by dignitaries, including ADC Shopian; District Development Council (DDC) members, district officers and a large gathering of womenfolk.
