JAMMU: A deputation of prominent Sikh community members today called on Tejinder Pal Singh Aman, Provincial President of Youth National Conference (YNC) Jammu, at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, to highlight the long-pending demands of Punjabi-speaking people in  Jammu and Kashmir. The deputation strongly urged the Govt to start teaching Punjabi in Govt Schools in view of the historical and demographic significance.

Responding to the concerns, Tejinder Pal Singh Aman assured the deputation that the Youth National Conference and the party are fully committed to safeguarding the linguistic and cultural rights of all communities, including the Punjabi-speaking populace.

He further added, “Under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and CM Omar Abdullah, the National Conference Govt  has always worked to protect the diverse cultural fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. The Omar Abdullah-led government will remain committed to implementing the genuine aspirations of all linguistic minorities, including the Sikh community.”

Tejinder Pal Singh Aman also criticized the previous dispensation for ignoring the voices of Punjabi speaking people and failing to recognize their legitimate demand. He assured the deputation that the issue will be raised with the senior party leadership and taken up at appropriate forums.

The interaction concluded with the Sikh leaders expressing hope and faith in the commitment of the National Conference Govt to deliver justice to Punjabi-speaking people. Among those who were on this occasion included: Randhir Singh, Harmandeep Singh, Amandeep Singh, Gursharan Singh, Manjeet Singh, Harjoot Singh, Parabjot Singh and Gurdev Singh.
