RAJOURI: The second meeting of the Special Joint Working Committee for implementation of the plan to strengthen the Cooperative movement in Rajouri was convened today here under the chairmanship of ADDC Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa. Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Adnan Rather provided an overview of the cooperative landscape in the district. He informed that Rajouri has 49 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) across its 312 panchayats.
The ADDC emphasized the importance of utilizing the existing cooperative infrastructure effectively. He directed that efforts should focus on reviving and handling existing PACS to maximize their potential. However, he also noted that the registration of one new PACS which has already been initiated should be expedited.
To ensure efficient management of underperforming or defunct societies, Dr. Thapa directed the formation of special committees for the liquidation or deregistration of such entities. These committees will review and recommend appropriate measures to streamline the cooperative ecosystem in the district. The ADDC urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to strengthen the cooperative movement, emphasizing its vital role in supporting rural livelihoods and fostering economic growth.
The meeting concluded with the direction to ensure efficient governance of cooperative societies. The meeting was attended by Adnan Rather, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Khalid Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO), Khalid Hussain, Ashwani Sharma, District Agriculture Officer, Ashwani Sharma, Assistant Registrars and other key officials.
