UDHAMPUR: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai and over all supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta, Sankalp-Hub for Empowerment of Women Udhampur organized series of awareness programs and pledge ceremonies in Government schools across district Udhampur to promote "Bal Vivah Mukti Bharat" campaign.
The main aim of the program is to prevent child marriage in the society and educate the community about the grave consequences of the practice. The message was put across through different activities like skits, symposium, debates, poems and songs. The initial leg of the program was organised in Government Higher Secondary School Barta zone Jib and Government Higher Secondary School Marta. The school students were engaged in different activities i.e debate competition, symposium, poems, songs and skit depicting theme of menace of child marriage.
Gender Specialist, Sankalp HEW Pooja Jamwal highlighted various schemes such as SMAS, pension schemes, loan schemes and women centric schemes which focus on the safety, security and empowerment of women/girls and children. She shared women helpline 181, Jeene do helpline 9469793363 for women in need of assistance and 1098 child helpline toll free service for children.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the principal of the school. He expressed his gratitude to the social welfare Department and all the participants for making the event a success. Later, the Department of Social welfare distributed school bags and wrist watches to meritorious girls under the banner of BBBP.
