KATRA: Students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University actively participated in a Workshop on Basohli Painting organized at Indian Institute of Technology Jammu.The programme titled “Intricacies of Basohli Painting” with the objective of promoting therich artistic heritage of the Jammu region and encouraging students to learn traditionalpainting techniques.

A team of students from SMVDU including Kritika Sangotra, Madhav Sharn, ShatakshiTewari, Aakshra Gupta, Arshia Anand, Avantika Gupta, and Kamakshi Sharmaparticipated in the workshop. During the event, participants were introduced to the history,cultural significance, and distinctive features of the famous Basohli painting style, known forits bold colours, expressive faces, and intricate detailing.

Experts at the workshop guided students through the traditional techniques used in Basohlipainting and encouraged them to create their own artwork during the competition session.The event served as an excellent learning opportunity for students to understand and practicethis classical art form.Among the participants, Kritika Sangotra showcased remarkable creativity and artistic skilland secured the 3rd position in the competition, bringing recognition to the university.

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof. Pragati Kumar, congratulated thestudents for their enthusiastic participation and specially appreciated Kritika Sangotra forher achievement. He encouraged students to actively engage in such cultural and creativeplatforms that help preserve and promote the traditional art forms of the region.

On the behalf of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, Coordinator, Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal also congratulated the participating students and highlighted the importance of connecting young learners with indigenous art traditions like Basohli painting. He emphasized that suchactivities play a vital role in spreading awareness about local cultural heritage among theyouth.
