SHOPIAN: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar today chaired the Public Outreach programme as part of Block Diwas at Baskuchan Imam Sahib, where he listened to public concerns, demands and grievances, and interacted with the community. The public flagged-off some key issues pertaining to restoration of irrigation canals, drainage, water supply, road maintenance, and power supply issues before the DC.
Upgrading irrigation infrastructure to support farming and prevent waterlogging, ensuring access to clean drinking water through improved schemes, maintaining roads for smoother transportation, enhancing electricity availability and resolving transformer-related issues were some key issues discussed one by one.
The officers on the spot responded to grievances and noted public demands for further action on them. The DC instructed the officers to plan for the public development demands as highlighted and take up feasible and appropriate action for meeting the public aspirations. On the occasion, the DC also emphasized the importance of joint efforts between the departments, civil society, and youth volunteers for keeping the village surroundings clean.
Additionally, he created awareness about key initiatives like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY), a health insurance scheme; Solar Village Scheme for Promoting renewable energy and sustainable living ; PM Muft Bijli Yojana, a free electricity initiative and awareness about the importance of vigilance on Drug Addiction.
ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone, also spoke on various youth development/ engagement activities and highlighted the importance of conducting social audits for all department works ongoing in the Block. Later, DC visited several sites of road development and irrigation canals to take a firsthand appraisal of requirements for their uptake.
DDC member Imam Sahib, ACR, SDM Zainapora, ACD, and other district/ sectoral and block officers were present on the occasion along with frontline workers of departments and local public.
