JAMMU: Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Sayed along with Assistant Director Horticulture Sunil Gupta conducted an extensive two day tour of Ramban and Doda districts to oversee operations and other developmental activities being carried out in the Horticulture sector in the Chenab region.
He reviewed the implementation of Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP)/ MIDH & JKCIP in the twin districts. During the visit, he inspected Government Fruit Plant Nursery, Batote, Rambanand Khelani and took stock of the ongoing developmental activities. He stressed on production of quality grafted planting material in the nursery.
In Doda District, Director Horticulture and District Development Council Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal visited MCC Office & Government Fruit Plant Nursery Kotli Bhaderwah to assess the progress and achievements.
At MCC office, Director Horticulture Jammu & DDC Council Chairman distributed certificates among 60 women farmers for successfully completing the One month training course in fruits and vegetables processing to produce value added products such as Jam, Pickle, Candies, Sauces, Squash, Jellys etc.
Meanwhile, the Director inaugurated Agriculture Service Centre (ASC) at Sungli - Bhaderwah set up by a beneficiary Rizwan Malik with the assistance of the department under the flagship JKCIP scheme. He also inspected the Root Stock Bank of Roshan Lal at Seri -Bhaderwah, Ultra High- Density apple orchard of Jaswan Manhas at Basti -Bhaderwah etc.
The Director also convened a meeting of the Horticulture Development Officers, officials & field functionaries of district Doda. Later, the Director inspected the site for development of Hi-Tech Frosty Fruit Cultivar Centre at Dhar Sarthal, Kathua. The facility is being developed over an area of 450 kanal. The area being of temperate climate, the nursery is suitable for production of temperate fruit plants. He was accompanied by DHO Kathua Shakeel Ahmed and officers from district Doda.
