JAMMU: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ansuya Jamwal convened a meeting today with members of the Petrol Pumps Association (Owners), divisional heads of oil companies—BPCL, IOCL, HPCL, and to discuss the implementation of road safety measures to check traffic violations and minimise accidents. The meeting was also attended by RTO Jammu Jasmeet Singh, along with other concerned officials.
The meeting was held in line with the recommendations of District Magistrate and Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Chairman Sachin Kumar Vaishya, following a recent RTA meeting. It focussed on the role of petrol pump owners in strengthening enforcement under the Motor Vehicles Act. The ADC emphasised the need for active cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure road safety and minimise violations. Petrol pump operators were directed to permit refuelling only for motorists wearing helmets or seat belts, as applicable.
They were also instructed to prevent congestion inside and outside their premises and to deploy staff to regulate vehicle movement. All petrol pumps must install CCTV systems with extended video feed storage to assist enforcement efforts. These systems will be subject to regular inspection by authorised district officials.
A brief period has been granted for compliance, after which all measures discussed in the meeting are expected to be fully implemented. Petrol pump operators have also been asked to display safety advisories prominently and to ensure that their premises are not used for unauthorised parking or boarding and deboarding, which can lead to congestion.
