SRINAGAR: Indian Buildings Congress (J&K Chapter) held an online Webinar on Fire Hazards and Safety, in Buildings. The Webinar was inaugurated by Er Aamir Ali Chairman Indian Buildings Congress (J&K Chapter). The expert speaker was Er. Aqib Hussain Mir, Deputy Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Srinagar. He spoke about the measures that need to be taken to ensure safety from fire.

He gave a detailed presentation about the common fire hazards, fire triangle, various stages of fire, types of fire extinguishers and methods of extinguishing the fire. Aqib Hussain is an engineer by training. He is also done his M.Tech and is currently also pursuing his Ph.D. at the National Institute of Technology, (NIT) Srinagar.

The Webinar was attended by almost 100 participants, from all over India. Prominent participants included Staff and Students from SSM College of Engineering, Parihaspora, Staff and students from various Government Polytechnics and ITIs, SP College, Amar Singh College, SP College, National Institute of Technology Hazratbal Srinagar, Engineers from Public Works Department, BSNL, PMGSY, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Power Grid Corporation of India, Executive Engineers and AEEs from Rural Engineering Wing, Members of Indian Buildings Congress, including Er Rafiq Ahmed Rafiq Former Chief Engineer, Ankur Nanda Treasurer IBC, Er Yasir Shafi Parray Honorary Secretary IBC.

The webinar was also attended by Er. Amar Vazirani, Chief Engineer PWD Goa, Dr G Rameswar Rao, Director Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), Hyderabad, Commandant State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Er.Muzafar A Beigh, Asst.General Manager BSNL, Dr Deepshikha Rawat, CM Office Govt. of Uttarakhand, Er. Syed Shabir Rufai Principal SSM Polytechnic College, Adil Rashid Naqash, KAS CAO SSM, Dr Rahul Jugran from SDMA Uttarakhand, Dr. Prof Rajni Srivastava, Allahabad, Er. Mohammed Yusuf Baba, Dr Gulzar Bin Rehman PhD Disaster Management, Dr. GN Var President Private Schools Association, Dr. M.A. Shah, Dean Alumni NIT Srinagar and many other participants. The speaker responded to various questions raised by the participants. Another Webinar is being organized on 15th April on World Heritage Day in collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management Govt. of India.
