RAMBAN: Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Ramban, Kuldeep Singh, has disqualified ten driving licences for a period of three months for serious violations of the Motor Vehicles Act by the licence holders.
The action has been taken under the provisions of Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991, based on recommendations from enforcement agencies, including the Motor Vehicles Department, Police and Traffic Police authorities.
According to the official order, the licence holders were involved in offences such as driving uninsured vehicles, riding without helmets, posing a risk to public safety by operating defective vehicles, breach of permit conditions, unauthorized vehicle alterations, absence of Pollution under Control Certificates (PUCC) and accused in bovine smuggling cases.
Show-cause notices were issued to the concerned licence holders to provide them with an opportunity for representation. However, most of them failed to respond within the stipulated time, while one reply submitted was found unsatisfactory.
