KISHTWAR: Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, who is also the Chairman of the District Level Committee (DLC), today chaired a meeting to review the implementation of the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 in the district. At the outset, the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Idrees Lone presented a brief overview of the current implementation status.
The Deputy Commissioner undertook a detailed and comprehensive review of key issues, including consent and authorization of healthcare facilities, timely submission of annual reports, implementation of the bar-coding system, functioning of the Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility (CBMWTF), installation and operation of ETPs/STPs and awareness and training of paramedical staff.
The Deputy Commissioner issued clear directions to the concerned departments and officers to ensure strict compliance. He emphasized accountability, regular monitoring and coordinated action among all stakeholders. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of proper segregation, handling and disposal of bio-medical waste in accordance with prescribed norms.
He directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to ensure that all government-run healthcare facilities obtain requisite consents under the Air and Water Acts and authorization under the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules.
The DC further directed that the consent process be expedited by completing all requisite formalities. The CMO was also instructed to ensure timely submission of annual reports by June 2026. During the meeting, the CMO informed that the bar-coding system for bio-medical waste management has already been adopted.
Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Health Department Kishtwar and the Pollution Control Board Kishtwar to jointly organize awareness and training sessions for paramedical staff at DH Kishtwar and in all Blocks of the District on the provisions of the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by ADC Kishtwar, Pawan Kotwal, ACR Kishtwar, Idrees lone, CMO Kishtwar, Dr. Yudhvir Singh Kotwal, Inspector PCC Kishtwar Gurjeet Singh and others concerned officers and staff.
