• DC Kathua calls for nurturing ambitions of girl students

KATHUA: Department of Social Welfare, Kathua organised a Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) awareness programme at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Basohli, today. Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, presided over the function. Among others present included Additional Deputy Commissioner Basohli, Pankaj Bhagotra; District Social Welfare Officer, Varun Kumar Choudhary, CDPO Basohli; Tehsildar Basohli; Principal-cum-ZEO Basohli; TSWOs of Kathua and Hiranagar, besides the staff of SANKALP–HUB, Mission Shakti Kathua.

The programme featured cultural performances by the students. Niharika, a class 8th student, recited a poem highlighting the importance of saving and educating the girl child. The students also presented a traditional Dogri dance which was widely appreciated.

Interacting with the students, the DC emphasised the importance of education in shaping a confident, capable and self-reliant generation of young women. He encouraged the girls to dream big, remain focused on their goals and make the best use of the facilities and opportunities being extended by the government for their overall development. He also listened patiently to the aspirations and demands put forth by the students and assured them of all possible support from the district administration in their pursuit of academic and career excellence. On the occasion, school bags, notebooks, tiffin boxes and water bottles were distributed among the students.
