JAMMU: In the wake of the recent devastating floods and cloudbursts that have severely impacted several areas of Jammu, the Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha (JCMS) issued a statement by its  President,  Romesh Chander Gupta, and raised serious concerns regarding the delayed relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Addressing the media, Romesh Chander Gupta expressed deep concern over the plight of families whose homes have been completely destroyed, yet are still awaiting any meaningful assistance from the concerned authorities. He highlighted that a significant number of these victims are being denied compensation merely because they lack formal revenue records for their properties — even though these structures served as their sole shelter.

It is deeply unfortunate that despite losing everything — homes, food grains, belongings — many affected families are running from pillar to post for help. The government must take immediate steps to ensure no one is left behind just due to technicalities, he stated.

He said that the JCMS urges the J&K  Government to fast-track the disbursement of compensation and relief packages, especially to those who have lost homes or suffered severe property damage. The Sabha strongly appealed for the allocation of 5 marlas of land to each affected family, as per earlier government announcements.

Moreover, Gupta insisted that families without formal documents must be treated as special cases, and compensation should be based on physical verification and loss assessment rather than bureaucratic red tape on humanitarian grounds in and around Jammu and in far fuung areas and genuine cases should not be delayed at any cost  irrespective of caste, creed and colour.

He also called for urgent restoration of essential infrastructure, including the reconstruction of approach roads, lanes, and drainage systems that have been washed away or damaged. "Many areas remain cut off, and stagnant water has led to unsanitary conditions and increased health risks,” he added.

JCMS demanded that on-ground damage assessment teams be deployed immediately and regular monitoring of rehabilitation works be ensured. Every affected family deserves swift, dignified support to rebuild their lives.
