IGP Kashmir chairs security review meeting of Central Kashmir Range at PCR Kashmir
SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Shri Sujit Kumar-IPS, chaired a security review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess the prevailing security situation and review the preparedness of police functionaries across the Central Kashmir Range.
The meeting was attended by DIG CKR Srinagar, SSsP of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal, SSP PCR Kashmir, SO to IGP Kashmir, SsP of Srinagar and Budgam, all SDPOs and other senior police officers.
At the outset, the participating officers briefed IGP Kashmir on the prevailing security situation in their respective areas of responsibility and apprised him of the security grid put in place to maintain peace, public order and a secure environment.
During the meeting, Shri Sujit Kumar reviewed the security grid and preparedness across the Central Kashmir Range, with particular focus on the deployment and operational readiness of personnel. IGP Kashmir stressed the need to enhance CI operations, area domination, intensify naka checking at vulnerable locations and strengthen checking and surveillance along inter-district borders.
IGP Kashmir further directed the officers to ensure that security arrangements remain dynamic and responsive to any vulnerable situation. Shri Sujit Kumar emphasized the importance of regular assessment of security arrangements and timely strengthening of deployments wherever required. IGP Kashmir also directed the officers to remain vigilant and ensure that all necessary preventive measures are in place for maintaining peace and public safety.
The meeting concluded with directions to all concerned officers to maintain round-the-clock vigilance, strengthen preventive security measures and ensure close coordination among field formations for maintaining a peaceful and secure environment across the Central Kashmir Range.
Police continues sporting events under CAP 2026-27 in Sopore; Kho-Kho Tournament inaugurated at Rafiabad
SOPORE: Continuing its series of sports and youth engagement activities under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026-27, Police in Sopore inaugurated a Kho-Kho Tournament at Gund Kareem Khan, Watergam, Rafiabad.
A total of 08 teams from across the area are participating in the tournament, providing young players a platform to showcase their talent and compete in a positive sporting environment with enthusiasm and true sporting spirit.
The tournament is part of the ongoing series of sporting events being organised by Sopore Police under CAP 2026-27, following the Handball, Volleyball, Cricket and other Kho-Kho events organised at different locations across Police District Sopore.
These initiatives are aimed at connecting with youth, encouraging local sporting talent and providing meaningful platforms to showcase their abilities, besides channelising their energy towards positive and constructive activities and strengthening police-public relations at the grassroots level.
J&K Police will continue to organise sports and youth-oriented activities across the Police District under CAP 2026-27, with a focus on encouraging greater participation in sports and creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
Police conduct Terror Incident Response Mock Drill in Baramulla
BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla conducted a Terror Incident Response Mock Drill at Veerwan Pandit Colony, Baramulla, under the overall supervision of SP Operations Baramulla, to assess and further strengthen the preparedness, coordination and response capabilities of security and emergency response agencies during a simulated terror incident.
The exercise witnessed coordinated participation of SOG Baramulla, SOG Sheeri, Police Stations Baramulla and Sheeri, 53 Bn CRPF along with K9 Team, 46 RR, OCAPS Baramulla, BSF 185 Bn, BDS, AST, Dog Squad, Medical Team, Fire & Emergency Services, GMC Baramulla and SDRF, as per their assigned roles and responsibilities.
The drill focused on rapid mobilisation, area domination, cordon and search, communication, evacuation, rescue, medical response and inter-agency coordination, besides assessing the effectiveness of the contingency response mechanism in handling a simulated terror incident.
The exercise was conducted successfully, enabling participating units to assess their operational preparedness, identify gaps and further strengthen coordinated response capabilities for effectively dealing with any emerging security challenge.
Police conducts joint enforcement drive in Baramulla
BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla, along with the Naib Tehsildar, conducted a joint enforcement drive at Chandoosa Market against violations affecting public health, cleanliness and road safety.
During the drive, 3.87 kg of prohibited polythene was seized and fines imposed. Action was also taken against COTPA/tobacco violations, roadside encroachments and unhygienic food practices in bakeries and restaurants.
Violators were issued clear directions to comply with the rules. Baramulla Police will continue such enforcement drives in coordination with concerned departments to ensure a clean, safe and orderly environment.
Police continues anti-drug drive in Sopore; wild cannabis destroyed
SOPORE: Continuing its sustained drive against the drug menace, Police in Sopore, in coordination with concerned civil departments and local community, conducted special drives to destroy wild cannabis (Bhang) at Choora and Rohama across Police District Sopore.
At Choora, in the jurisdiction of Police Post Putkha, Sopore Police, with active participation of the local civil society of Choora and Putkha, destroyed wild cannabis spread over approximately 10 marlas of land.
Similarly, at Rohama in Rafiabad, a larger joint drive was carried out by Sopore Police in coordination with the Revenue and Excise Departments, during which wild cannabis spread over approximately 11 kanals of land was destroyed.
The drives are part of sustained efforts to eliminate potential sources of narcotic substances and prevent their misuse.
J&K Police appeals to the general public to cooperate in the fight against drugs and share information regarding drug peddling or cultivation of narcotic substances with the nearest police establishment for appropriate action under law.
Police conducts contingency response mock drill at Railway Station Pattan
PATTAN: Police in Baramulla conducted a Contingency Response Mock Drill at Railway Station Pattan to assess and strengthen the preparedness, response capabilities and coordination mechanism of police, security and emergency response agencies during a simulated emergency situation. The exercise was conducted under the overall supervision of SP Operations Baramulla and coordinated by DySP Operations Pattan.
The drill involved the active participation of all concerned units and agencies as per their assigned roles and responsibilities. The exercise focused on assessing immediate response, tactical intervention, cordoning and area security, access control, search and sanitization, casualty management, evacuation of passengers, restoration of normalcy, and effective inter-agency communication and coordination.
The participating teams included SDPO Pattan, SOG Pattan, PS Pattan, Column SDPO, OCAPS Pattan, PP Palhallan, SSB 2nd Battalion, 29 RR, RPF/GRP/RPSF, Fire & Emergency Services Pattan, Medical Team Pattan and PSK9 Squad. Each participating unit carried out its designated responsibilities in coordination with other agencies, providing an opportunity to evaluate the overall response mechanism in a coordinated and realistic environment.
The mock drill was conducted successfully and provided a valuable platform to assess operational preparedness, identify areas requiring further improvement and enhance coordination among the participating agencies for an effective response to any unforeseen contingency.

Police books notorious peddler under PIT-NDPS in Anantnag
ANANTNAG: Continuing its sustained crackdown on the drug menace, Police in Anantnag have booked a notorious drug peddler, Khursheed Ahmad Rather son of Gul Mohd Rather resident of Waghama, Bijbehara, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
The accused has been identified as a repeated drug offender involved in activities related to the illicit trafficking of narcotic substances. In view of his continued involvement in drug-related activities and to prevent further illicit trafficking, the competent authority ordered his detention under the PIT-NDPS Act.
Following the detention order, Khursheed Ahmad Rather has been lodged in District Jail, Bhaderwah, as per law.
J&K Police reiterates its commitment to taking stringent action against drug traffickers and repeat offenders and to further strengthening the ongoing campaign for a Drug-Free society.
Police strengthens community awareness against drug abuse in Baramulla
BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla conducted an awareness programme at Wussan to sensitise the local community about the harmful effects of substance abuse and the need for collective efforts to combat drug addiction.
The programme was attended by IC Police Post Wussan, local PRI members and community members. Participants were sensitised about the physical, social and psychological harms of drug abuse and encouraged to actively contribute towards creating a drug-free society.
The importance of the role of parents, youth, PRIs and community members in identifying and preventing substance abuse was also emphasised. Participants were encouraged to remain vigilant, support individuals affected by addiction and work closely with police to address drug-related concerns.
The programme concluded peacefully with active participation and appreciation from the attendees. J&K Police reiterated its commitment to strengthening community participation in the fight against drug abuse and promoting a safe and healthy society.
Police starts five-day training course on new criminal laws in Baramulla
BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla commenced a five-day training course on the new criminal laws at District Police Lines Baramulla, aimed at strengthening the legal knowledge, investigative skills and professional capabilities of police personnel.
The training focuses on key provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), along with related procedural requirements. It also emphasises the effective implementation of the revised criminal law framework and its practical application in investigation and other police proceedings. The participating officers and personnel are being sensitised on updated legal provisions, procedural requirements, scientific investigation, evidence handling and proper documentation.
The sessions are being conducted with the participation of resource persons from relevant legal and judicial institutions, providing practical insights to Investigating Officers and other participating personnel.
During the sessions, emphasis is being laid on identifying and addressing common shortcomings in investigation, ensuring adherence to prescribed procedures, and adopting professional and evidence-based practices for preparing legally sound case files.
The course also provides participants with practical insights into the application of the new laws, with a focus on improving investigative efficiency, maintaining procedural accuracy and ensuring effective delivery of justice.
J&K Police reiterated that regular capacity-building and specialised training are essential for keeping personnel abreast of changes in the criminal justice framework and enhancing the overall quality of policing and investigation.
Police arrest three drug peddlers including a lady in Kulgam, contraband substance recovered
KULGAM: Continuing its intensified campaign against drug trafficking, Police in Kulgam arrested three drug peddlers, including a lady drug peddler, in two separate actions and recovered a total of 190.5 grams of heroin-like substance.
In the first action, during dynamic naka checking at Upper Market Qazigund near Town Hall, a woman found roaming under suspicious circumstances was apprehended by the police party. During the search of her bag, 20.5 grams of Heroin-like substance, packed in a black polythene envelope, was recovered. She has been identified as Aqsa Bashir daughter of Bashir Ahmad Dar resident of Hardpora Akinpora, Anantnag. Accordingly, FIR No. 221/2026 was registered at Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated.
In another action, a dynamic naka was established near the North Portal of Navyug Tunnel, where the naka party of PP Navyug Tunnel intercepted a silver-coloured Swift Dzire bearing registration No. JK09E-9019 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Imran Mir son of Mohd Akram Mir and Muhbat Dar son of Maqsood Ahmed Dar, both residents of Karnah, Kupwara. During checking, 170 grams of Heroin was recovered from their possession. Both were arrested and FIR No. 222/2026 was registered at Police Station Qazigund. Investigation has been taken up to establish the source of the contraband and identify other persons involved.
J&K Police appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly share information regarding drug trafficking with Police.
Police intensify crackdown on traffic violations and illegal mining in Baramulla & Shopian; 18 vehicles seized
BARAMULLA & SHOPIAN: Police in Baramulla & Shopian districts intensified enforcement against violations of traffic laws, illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals, taking firm action against violators during checking, patrolling and surprise enforcement operations.
In Baramulla, Police Station Boniyar conducted naka checking at Boniyar Main Market and challaned 09 vehicles under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Five vehicles were seized under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act, while action was also taken against violations including driving without a seat belt, use of mobile phones while driving and driving without a valid licence.
In a separate operation, a naka established by Police Station Bijhama intercepted two dumpers, JK05M-2847 and JK05K-5687, carrying gypsum. The vehicles were subsequently challaned by the Mining Department under the relevant provisions.
J&K Police also intensified its crackdown on illegal mining and transportation of minerals. During surprise checking, tractor JK05Q-6043 was found operating without valid royalty documents and was seized and challaned under the relevant provisions of the MMDR Act. In another operation at Jahama, Police seized a motor allegedly being used for illegal sand extraction, with further legal action initiated.
At Mirgund, Baramulla Police seized 11 commercial vehicles under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act for allegedly plying without valid statutory documents. The seized vehicles comprised five dumpers and six tippers, with further action being taken as per law.
Meanwhile in Shopian, Police continued its sustained action against illegal mining, seizing one JCB and six tractors allegedly involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. Police Station Shopian registered FIR No. 195/2026, while Police Post Hermain registered FIR No. 193/2026 in connection with separate incidents. Investigations in both cases have been initiated.
J&K Police reiterated that illegal mining, unauthorized mineral transportation and violations of traffic and transport laws will invite strict legal action. The enforcement measures are aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance, protecting natural resources, strengthening road discipline and safeguarding the safety of road users.
The public has been urged to cooperate with the Police and concerned departments and to report unlawful mining or other violations.
