BARAMULLA: In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services in North Kashmir, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today inaugurated two new Medical Records Department (MRD) Blocks and a state-of-the-art Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla. The event was attended by Principal GMC Baramulla, Dr. Ruby Reshi and Medical Superintendent of Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla, Dr. Syed Parvaiz Masood, along with other dignitaries, healthcare professionals, and media representatives.
The two MRD Blocks have been developed with significant funding to improve patient record management and reduce the public rush at the hospital. One block that has come up at Rs.42 lakhs, was funded under the Aspirational District Programme, while the other block that was built for Rs.56 lakhs, was constructed under the GMC Capex Budget. These facilities aim to streamline operations and enhance service delivery at the hospital.
The VDRL facility, established under an ICMR project with funding of Rs.1 crore, is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and will cater to the healthcare needs of the entire North Kashmir region, focusing on the diagnosis and management of venereal diseases.
While addressing the media, the DC highlighted the regional significance of GMC Baramulla, stating âGMC Baramulla caters not only to Baramulla district but to patients from across North Kashmir. These new facilities will undoubtedly help manage the growing patient rush.â
Additionally, he said âunder the Aspirational District Programme, we have constructed a waiting hall to provide comfort to visiting patients and their attendants. Under a CSR initiative, we are also working on augmenting the Dialysis Center to enhance healthcare services further.â
