JMC, Police conduct joint Anti Encroachment Drive

JAMMU: In continuation to its anti-encroachment campaign, Jammu Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with traffic police conducted a massive drive in Channi Himmat, Narwal, Panama Chowk, Railway Road, Baggar Basti, Gandhi Nagar to ease traffic congestions and ensure free movement of pedestrians on footpaths. The drive was conducted on the instructions of Commissioner Dr.  Devansh Yadav.

The special squad of Jammu Municipal Corporation seized the material displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and footpaths causing traffic congestion and free flow of pedestrians. The team also lifted illegal rehries and removed unauthorized hoardings/flexes from these areas.

Jammu Municipal Corporation has repeatedly issued strict instructions to the shopkeepers regarding removal of encroachments by shopkeepers through public notices. The shopkeepers violating rules by displaying their goods beyond the shutter line of their shops   shall face action under Section 232 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 which may further lead towards the sealing of the shops. Strict instructions were also issued to the street vendors/phari walas to ply their rehries only in the rehri zones established by Jammu Municipal Corporation.  

Meanwhile, Commissioner JMC conducted a tour of Apsara Road, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu to take stock of the area. He was accompanied by Sr. Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Faisal Qureshi.  During the tour, he briefed the media about measures taken by the Corporation to ease traffic congestion on the Apsara Road. “The road has been upgraded with the aim to boost the business activities in the area. However, the parking of vehicles on the left side of the road create traffic chaos resulting in major traffic jams and problems to the visitors/customers,: he said.

He further added that one way sign boards have been installed by JMC to overcome traffic congestion on the road. “To streamline the parking system and to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic, instructions have been issued not to allow parking only on the right side of the road, strictly within the yellow line,” he added. He said the Shopkeepers of Apsara road shall have to park their two wheelers on the road side area adjacent to Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and four wheelers at nearby parking space of J&K Housing Board. Any violation will be acted upon under JMC Act, 2000, he added.
