SAMBA: Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur, under the able guidance of worthy Principal Dr. Vandana Verma in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Samba successfully conducted an awareness program on "Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace" also known as “POSH Act” aimed at educating and empowering individuals about the importance of a safe and respectful work environment for women. The program was attended by faculty members and students, fostering a crucial conversation on women's rights and workplace safety.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Poonam Kundan, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences at GDC Vijaypur. Prof. Kundan set the tone for the programme, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about sexual harassment and creating a safe space for women in all workplaces. Ms. Arti Sharma, Center administrator, then took the floor to speak about the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act, explaining its provisions and how it empowers women by providing legal recourse against harassment at the workplace. She discussed the importance of understanding workplace rights and the legal framework that supports women in such situations.

Following Ms. Sharma, Counselor Ms. Qazi Insha Shakeel, representing the Sakhi One Stop Centre, enlightened the audience about the various services offered by the Centre to women in distress. She elaborated on how the Sakhi Centre serves as a comprehensive support system, providing legal, medical, and psychological assistance to women facing violence and harassment.

The entire event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan, who ensured its smooth flow and effective communication. Senior faculty member, Prof. Anoop Kumar, Head of the Department of Sociology, also provided valuable guidance throughout the event, contributing to the overall success of the program. Prof. Meetu Sharma, Prof. Gunjeet Mahiwal Randhawa, Prof. Ragini Gupta, Prof. Priyanka Ganjoo and Prof Mazid Malik co-coordinated the event. Dr. Sonia Jamwal, Ms. Sonia Devi, Dr. Indu Koul, Dr. Anjana Raina, Ms. Pooja Katoch, Dr. Noreen Jaral, Dr. Nain Singh, Ms. Manisha Kumari and Dr Sana attended the event.

The session concluded by Prof. Poonam Kundan delivering the formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speakers, participants, and organizers for making the event informative and engaging. This initiative was a step forward in educating the college community about sexual harassment at the workplace, creating a platform for awareness, and encouraging students and faculty to stand up for women's safety and equality.
