UDHAMPUR: The Department of Handicrafts Udhampur, on Tuesday organized an awareness camp and workshop for artisans specializing in Sozni and Phulkari crafts. The event aimed to enhance the skills of local artisans by introducing them to contemporary designs developed by the School of Design (SOD). Artisans were also made aware of various government schemes available to support their craft and livelihood. To provide hands-on assistance, a trainer from SOD was present to guide artisans on implementing the new designs effectively.
Assistant Director Ujwal Singh Sambyal addressed the artisans and provided a detailed briefing on the range of schemes offered by the Department of Handicrafts. These schemes aim to uplift the artisans by providing financial assistance, training programs and market linkages.He emphasized the department's commitment to promoting traditional crafts and ensuring artisans remain competitive in todayâs market. In addition to the workshop, artisans were given pamphlets detailing the departmentâs schemes and new design templates to help them innovate their craftwork.
The initiative was well-received by the local artisan community, who expressed gratitude for the guidance and support extended by the department. This workshop is part of an ongoing effort to preserve and promote the rich heritage of Sozni and Phulkari crafts while equipping artisans with the tools to expand their reach and thrive in the modern economy.
