KATHUA: As part of its outreach initiative, the District Administration Kathua organized a Mega Block Diwas at Basohli, today. The event witnessed participation of local MLA Darshan Singh, DDC Chairman Mahan Singh, Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr. Rakesh Minhas, and officials from district and sectoral departments. Speaking at the event, MLA Basohli Darshan Singh stressed the importance of accelerating the project implementation under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to address the pressing drinking water needs of the hilly Basohli constituency.
The DDC Chairman appreciated the Block Diwas initiative as an effective means to understand ground realities. He emphasized the need to resolve issues such as release of pending land compensation and to expedite development projects. He commended the efforts of the Deputy Commissioner in repairing hand pumps, providing much-needed relief to water-deficient areas. He also called for expediting ongoing construction of health sub-centers, filling vacant posts of doctors and paramedical staff in health institutions.
DC Kathua Dr. Rakesh Minhas announced several key initiatives to enhance the facilities in Basohli, including Provision of an ambulance under CSR and a Hearse Van next month, besides ensuring immediate functioning of the ultrasound machine in Basohli hospital. He further assured the commissioning of the toilet complex in Basohli town and passed a slew of instructions for early completion of the filtration plant, Installation of adequate seating arrangements at the ADC Basohli office complex for public convenience.
The DC further assured installation of streetlights and high-mast lighting from Purthu to Atal Setu to improve the townâs aesthetic ambiance. Earlier, Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Department reported that seven water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission will be completed by December, with an additional ten schemes by January 2025. The event also featured 15 departmental stalls providing on-the-spot assistance and showcasing welfare schemes to the public.
