KULGAM: The Excise Range South Kashmir in collaboration with Govt Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Frisal today organized series of events on the theme, ‘Drug Abuse, its Implications/ Challenges & the Way Forward’ to raise awareness on Drug menace. The program commenced with a pledge taken by all participants to say no drugs/psychotropic substances.
The principal accompanied by Excise officers/officials inaugurated the Sports event, Essay competition and Carrom match. In the concluding part of the event, oath was taken by all the participants to not cultivate Poppy/Bhung. All the participants were given appreciation certificates. Medals Mementos were also given to the best performers.
After finishing the event, all the participants were enlightened about the growing menace drug addiction amongst youth The experts from Excise Department & the Principal delivered comprehensive speech on the topic and made humble requests to the student community for developing an attitude of thanksgiving & further requested them to act as the Ambassadors of the department in floating this message far & vide for greater human cause. In the concluding part of the function, a joint pledge was again taken by the students to stay away from the influences of drugs.
- Awareness programme under Dharti Abha Janjatiya Utkarsh Abhiyan held at Manzgam
KULGAM: In a significant initiative aimed at empowering tribal communities and fostering sustainable development, an awareness programme ‘Dharti Abha Janjatiya Utkarsh Abhiyan’ was successfully conducted in Manzgam today.
The event focused on raising awareness regarding welfare and development programs for tribal populations and environmental conservation. It attracted a substantial number of tribal residents, along with prominent figures from various sectors.
DDC Member Manzgam, Choudhary Jameela was the chief guest on the occasion. She underscored the importance of community involvement in achieving long-term socio-economic development for tribal communities and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
The District Social Welfare Officer Kulgam emphasized that tribal areas have historically been neglected and assured the community that all government benefits would be promptly extended to these regions. This initiative is part of a broader movement to uplift tribal areas, addressing critical gaps in social infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood in such villages.
Key objectives include improving housing conditions, promoting economic empowerment, enhancing educational access, and ensuring better healthcare services for tribal populations. Throughout the day, various activities were organized, including awareness programmes, interactive sessions and sports activities.
Educational kits were also distributed to meritorious tribal girls during the event. The event concluded with a call to action for all community members to actively engage in government efforts aimed at the development of tribal areas.
- World Heritage Week 2024: Directorate of AA&M organises ‘Pep Talk’
SRINAGAR: To commemorate World Heritage Week 2024, the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums, J&K, organized a Pep Talk by Historian and Poet, Zarif Ahmad Zarif on the importance of Culture and Harmony it manifests in J&K at Teachers Bhawan Bemina, Srinagar. Teachers Bhawan witnessed enthusiastic participation from heritage enthusiasts, scholars, and students from various schools and colleges.
Speaking on World Heritage Week, Zarif raised awareness about the significance of World Heritage Week and importance of safeguarding heritage for future generations. Celebration of this Week helps us to examine our history and traditions and enables us to develop awareness about heritage, he added.
Zarif while interacting with the students stressed that it is important to create awareness among the students about rich cultural heritage so that they can understand the importance of preservation of our glorious past for its posterity.

- DLSA Srinagar, D&FCO conduct an Awareness programme on ‘Food Safety Act’
SRINAGAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with Drug & Food Control Organisation (Food Safety wing Srinagar) Wednesday conducted an awareness programme on ‘Food Safety Act’ and a comprehensive inspection of canteens/Food Courts, etc. within the District Court premises.
This initiative aims to enhance food safety standards and ensure compliance among food service providers operating in public facilities. This initiative was held under the guidance of Jaffer Hussain Beg, Chairman DLSA/Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, and the supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Srinagar.
The inspection was carried out in presence of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Sub-Judge/Secretary DLSA Srinagar; Fida Hussain Nayek, Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar; Yameen Ul Nabi, Assistant Commissioner, Drug & Food Control Organisation; Chief Administrative Officer, District Court Srinagar, Food Safety Officers, officials, Legal Aid Defence Counsels, Para Legal Volunteers from the DLSA.
During the inspection, improvement notices were issued to the owners and staff members of canteen holders and the food courts etc. These notices aimed to address various compliance issues, ensuring that all food service providers meet the safety standards laid out in the Food Safety Act. This proactive measure underscores the commitment of the DLSA and its collaborators to safeguard public health.
The primary objective of this initiative was to raise awareness about food safety regulations and to educate canteen operators about the importance of adhering to these standards.
- Legal Awareness programme on Reducing Plastic Waste & Preserving BioDiversity held at Bandipora
BANDIPORA: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora in coordination with Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Sumbal and in collaboration with Education Department celebrated Legal awareness programme on Reduce Plastic Waste/ Preserving Biodiversity at Govt Girls High School Sumbal.
The programme was held under the supervision of Chairman DLSA Bandipora, Khalil Ahmad Choudhary and guidance of Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon. Adv. Tasleema Jan (Panel lawyer) TLSC Sumbal, educated the participants that plastic poses risks to human and environmental health at every stage of its life, right from production, use, and disposal.
She said governments, companies, and consumers should work as one to break the addiction to plastic usage, champion zero waste, and build a plastic free economy. She also said that reduction of plastic waste can be addressed by setting and implementing design and safety standards for disposing of non-recyclable plastic waste and by making manufacturers responsible for products shedding micro plastics and other hazardous materials.
Regarding preserving biodiversity, Adv. Tasleema Jan said that biodiversity is the sum of all life on earth, thus preserving biodiversity refers to the protection, upliftment and management of biodiversity in order to derive sustainable benefits for present and future generations.
Concluding the event she said that because the decline in biodiversity is caused by humans, biodiversity now needs humans to transform their behavior and actions in order to preserve biodiversity. The programme was attended by staff members of TLSC Sumbal, PLVs, Teachers and Students of the said institution, etc.
- TLSC Aishmuqam organized Awareness program on ‘Reducing Plastic Waste & Preserving Bio Diversity’
ANANTNAG: Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Aishmuqam today organised a program under the chairmanship of Munsiff/ JMIC Aishmuqam, Shyam Kumar. The function was attended by various members including Additional SP Anantnag (North), Ghulam Hassan; Heads of various departments, Tariq Hussain Shah and Tawheeda Khan, Penal Advocates as resource persons along with staff members, PLVs and various respectable members of the society.
The main focus of the function was ‘Reducing Plastic Waste and Preserving Bio Diversity’. Various students participated in the program and highlighted the problems faced by the use of Plastic waste and preservation of biodiversity.
Chairman TLSC delivered a speech and highlighted the various problems faced by the society by the use of Plastic and Preserving of Bio Diversity. The function was concluded with a rally through the market area, where jute bags were distributed among various shopkeepers by Chairman TLSC Aishmuqam to reduce the use of Polythene bags.
