JAMMU: Asserting the unwavering commitment of the National Conference (NC) towards the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of J&KNC emphasized that the issue of statehood is not just a political slogan but a fundamental concern that directly impacts the future of J&K’s youth and the overall democratic structure of the region.
In a press release issued here today, the senior NC leader made it clear that not only Congress but every individual in J&K is fighting for the restoration of statehood, as it is intrinsically linked to the aspirations of the people. “The people of J&K have revived democracy by electing a popular government and actively participating in the democratic process. In the past, voter turnout in elections remained abysmally low, with participation barely reaching 10-15%. However, with the National Conference’s assurance and steadfast efforts, the people have wholeheartedly reposed their faith in democracy, leading to greater electoral participation,” he remarked.
“The National Conference has been the torchbearer of democratic rights in J&K and has consistently raised the demand for full statehood at every forum, including Parliament, public rallies, and political dialogues. Our commitment is not limited to words but is backed by relentless political struggle,” he asserted.
Reaffirming the party’s stand, Rattan Lal Gupta urged the central leadership to take immediate steps toward restoring statehood and ensuring constitutional safeguards that protect the rights and identity of J&K’s people. “We do not indulge in political theatrics. The National Conference believes in action, and we will continue to fight for the people’s rights with full dedication,” he said.
The senior NC leader further reiterated that the present government headed by the visionary and dynamic Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remains resolute in its mission to restore the respect, dignity and constitutional rights of Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring a prosperous and secure future for its people.
