• Announces comprehensive steps to safeguard lives and promote road safety

SRINAGAR:  The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) has pledged its unwavering support to the ongoing efforts aimed at curbing underage driving and traffic violations among students. In light of the recent Thar-related accident, which has shaken the community, the Association hailed the collaborative efforts of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Police, Traffic Police, and civil administration in combating the growing menace of traffic violations.

In a statement issued to media, PSAJK President G. N. Var emphasized the critical role schools play in shaping the behavior of students and vowed to leverage this influence to ensure a safer society.

The Association has unveiled a series of proactive measures to assist in the movement for safer roads:Education and Awareness Initiatives PSAJK will organize traffic safety workshops in schools to raise awareness about the dangers of underage driving, speeding, and reckless behavior. Traffic police officers and road safety advocates will be invited to speak to students about real-life consequences of traffic violations, Parental Involvement for Greater Accountability Schools will actively engage parents in Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs), focusing on driving habits and traffic safety.

A quarterly meeting will be dedicated to discussing parental responsibilities in preventing underage driving, with non-compliant parents facing serious repercussions, including potential restrictions on student admissions,  Collaboration with Authorities PSAJK will work closely with local traffic police to ensure regular checks around school zones to prevent underage driving. The schools will also introduce an anonymous reporting system where students can report unsafe driving behavior among peers, School-Driven Policies for Safety

A strict policy will be introduced prohibiting students from driving to school unless they meet the legal age and licensing requirements. Awareness campaigns, including posters, social media, and school assemblies, will further reinforce the message of responsible driving,  Promotion of Safe Transportation Alternatives  PSAJK will encourage the use of public transportation and school buses over personal vehicles. Additionally, the Association will facilitate carpooling arrangements with licensed drivers to reduce traffic and ensure students' safety. With these steps, the Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir aims to foster a culture of safety and responsibility among students, ensuring safer roads for all.
