The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction work of the bridge over Pedu Nallah at Mahanpur, being executed by the Border Roads Organisation. The DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua Vishavjeet Singh, Executive Engineer PWD Billawar, Tehsildar and Block Development Officer Mahanpur.

During the visit, the DC directed the executing agency to expedite the pace of work and ensure completion and full operationalisation of the bridge by August 20, 2025. BRO officials apprised the DC that one-way movement of light motor vehicles has already been allowed through the newly constructed bridge. For heavy vehicles, a diversion was created; however, it was inundated due to recent rains. The BRO assured that the diversion will be restored after clearance of mud and debris to facilitate smooth vehicular movement.

The DC emphasised that timely completion of the bridge will significantly improve connectivity, ensure uninterrupted movement of people and goods, and provide much-needed relief to commuters affected by the disruption. Pertinently, the bridge over Pedu Nallah — a vital link for commuters on the Mahanpur–Basohli axis — was completely damaged recently due to heavy rainfall and landslides.

In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family
