The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

SRINAGAR: Janata Dal (United) Jammu & Kashmir President, G.M. Shaheen, has made a strong appeal to the Hon’ble Railway Minister of India to expedite the much-awaited Kupwara–Baramulla railway link, describing it as a lifeline for the economic, social, and tourism development of North Kashmir.Shaheen also appreciated the Railway Department for initiating goods train services to transport essential commodities from other parts of India to Kashmir.

He said this initiative would particularly boost the apple industry, enabling faster transportation, reducing costs, and ensuring better market rates for farmers.“Kupwara is one of the most strategically important districts of Jammu & Kashmir. Connecting it directly to the railway network will bring immense benefits to the people, boost local business, and integrate the district more closely with the rest of the country. This is not just an infrastructure project—it is a necessity for our region’s progress,” Shaheen stated.

The JDU leader urged the Railway Ministry to allocate adequate funds and prioritize the project in the upcoming development plan so that work on the extension can begin at the earliest.Shaheen emphasized that the Kupwara–Baramulla rail project has been a long-pending demand of the people, who have been eagerly awaiting this vital connectivity.

He reiterated that the extension will reduce travel time, create employment opportunities, and open new avenues for trade and tourism.Reaffirming the party’s stand, Shaheen said, “The JDU will continue to work for the welfare of every region in Jammu & Kashmir and raise the voice of the people at every platform until their genuine demands are fulfilled.”
