JAMMU: BJP spokesperson and J&K BJP Convenor, International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta has urged every Indian to look beyond individual incidents and recognise what he described as a “clear and disturbing pattern” of protests and disruptions surrounding major national and international events involving India.
Gupta said the developments of 2026, when viewed together, raise serious questions over the timing of such protests, particularly when India is preparing to showcase its capabilities and leadership before the international community.
“Look at the pattern. First, during the India AI Impact Summit, when India was showcasing its technological capabilities and emerging global leadership, Congress workers staged a protest inside the venue, creating an embarrassing spectacle before international delegates,” Gupta said.
He further pointed to disruptions during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, alleging that repeated protests and disruptions overshadowed legislative business and meaningful parliamentary debate.
“And now, as India prepares to host the BRICS Summit in September, the CJP has announced a protest at India Gate. These developments, when viewed together, cannot simply be ignored,” he said.
Gupta, however, clarified that peaceful protest is an essential part of democracy. “Let me be absolutely clear peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right. But democracy also demands responsibility. When India is preparing to host world leaders at a major international summit, and protests are announced at one of the most prominent locations in the national capital immediately before such an event, every Indian has the right to ask: Is this merely a coincidence, or is there a larger pattern that we need to recognise?” he said.
Referring to the upcoming BRICS Summit, Gupta said the event provides India with an important opportunity to demonstrate its diplomatic stature, economic strength and growing influence on the global stage.
“BRICS is not an ordinary event. The world will be watching India. At such a crucial moment, any attempt to create an atmosphere of disruption, instability or negative international attention ultimately impacts the image of the entire country not merely that of the government,” Gupta asserted. He stressed that political parties and organisations have every right to criticise the government, question policies and raise genuine public concerns.
“Oppose the government. Question its policies. Raise genuine issues. That is democracy. But opposition to a government cannot become opposition to India’s progress. The distinction between political disagreement and actions that damage the country’s international image must be understood,” Gupta said. Gupta appealed to citizens to examine the broader sequence of events rather than viewing each protest or disruption in isolation.
“My appeal to every Indian is simple: Recognise the pattern. In 2026, we saw protests during the AI Summit, disruption during the Monsoon Session, and now, ahead of the BRICS Summit, an announcement of a protest at India Gate,” he said.
“When the same pattern repeatedly appears around moments when India is presenting itself before the world, the people of India must remain alert and judge these developments with wisdom,” Gupta added. Concluding his statement, Gupta asserted that political disruptions would not derail India's development journey.
“India understands. The people of India understand. India will neither bow nor stop. No political disruption can derail India’s journey. India will continue to move forward—with confidence, stability, development and global leadership,” he said.
