JAMMU: The 15 days short term skill course “Medical Laboratory Techniques” which was organized by the Skill Development and Carrer Planning vertical of the Skill Innovation Incubation Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SIIEDC) in collaboration with Institute of Human Genetics and Health Centre University of Jammu concluded today with the valedictory function and distribution of certificates held at the conference hall of the Institute of Human Genetics, University of Jammu.
Dr. Pavan Malhotra while addressing the students said “The Medical diagnostics has a huge scope and students should participate in these courses to sharpen their skills”. With his vast experience in the field of medical diagnostics he acquainted the audience about how the diagnostic technologies have changed in the last 30 decades and what precautions need to be taken care of to minimize the chances of errors in medical diagnostics.
Prof. Naresh Padha addressed the gathering and said that the University of Jammu is committed to implementation of National Education Policy in Letter and Spirit. He encouraged the SIIEDC to hold such programmes in future.
Prof. Alka Sharma, Director SIIEDC, outlined the mandate of the SIIEDC, focusing on its key areas of skills, innovation, incubation, entrepreneurship, and development. She emphasized the significance of hands-on training in skill development and highlighted SIIEDC's role in enhancing students' abilities through practical training in various courses.
Prof. B.K Bajaj, Coordinator Institute of Human Genetics apprised the audience about the various activities of the Institute of Human Genetics and its collaboration with SIIEDC in making the event successful. Earlier, Prof. Garima Gupta, Coordinator Skill Vertical, acquainted the audience about the Skill Development and Career Planning Vertical of the SIIEDC and gave a detailed information about the Skill course Medical Laboratory.
Dr. Ankit Mahajan, Course Coordinator shared that more than 40 students participated in the course which included 30 theory and practical sessions which were divided in 2 categories, first one in which students were trained in the DNA diagnostics techniques including DNA extraction from blood, Qualitative and quantitative analysis of DNA, Amplification of Human gene, PCR primers designing using UCSC genome browser, Expression studies using RT PCR, Sanger Sequencing of DNA. The Second part included biochemical and haematological diagnostic techniques in which they were taught how to work on a semi- automated analyser to carry out tests like Lipid profile, Renal Function tests, Liver Function tests, Hb determination, TLC and DLC determination.
