JAMMU: Orion Square is an award winning social impact platform for students aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) for India. They have been working with thousands of students across India & globally to create cutting-edge insights, best practices & sustainable improvement in society that equips students with the tools to bring about a change including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice.
Their flagship event Youth Impact for students across Delhi NCR (12-18 years) started as a discovery process on July 6th and culminated on 24th August for students to develop societal consciousness and build critical thinking, innovation and global altruism through- Creative writing, Short film making & Case study (all 3 aligned to UN SDG’s for India). The entire event including the jury interaction was held online.
United Nations Global Compact India was the vision partner for this event, Career Launchers supported them through the technology and PVR nest supported the short film category. There was overwhelming response in all 3 categories from leading private schools of Delhi NCR including DPS, Modern School BK, Modern VV, Tagore International, DPS International, The Shriram School, Shriram Millenium School Noida, Step by Step Noida, GD Goenka Pubic School, Lotus Valley International, Presidium , Lexicon International, Springdales, American British Academy, Summer fields and Manav Rachna International etc
Over a period of 1.5 months the students experienced a beautiful journey of sharing their thoughts on social impact issues and sustainable development goals for India through writing, film making and doing research for case studies. Orion Square mentored the semi finalists across categories and an impressive celebrity Jury interacted and judged their work.
The Jury included big names like Kishwer Desai (Author), Ramesh Menon (Journalist), Satya Narayanan (CEO, Author), Shilpa Ajwani (CEO, Columnist) for Creative Writing contest, Akarsh Khurana (Director, Actor), Kavita Joshi (Documentary Film maker), Vedant Rusty (Internet Influencer), Paolo Favero (Professor Film studies), Rudrani Chettri (Trans Actor) for Short films contest, Sanjay Kapoor (CEO & Investor), Pritha Dutt (skill building), Nita Kapoor (Upcycling), Ankur Narang (AI expert), Kamal Singh (CEO UNGC) & Divya Jain (Project manager-UNDP) for Case Study contest.
While everyone who participated is a winner as they have the commitment and passion to bring a change in the landscape of India, Creative writing was won by Diya Sabharwal (Modern School, BK Road) & Runners up were Dheeraj Deshpande (Lotus Valley International school & Ria Gupta (TSMS, Noida). Case Study was won by Arjun Suri (Shriram Millenium school, Noida) & runners up was Prabhroop Kaur (Manav Rachna International) and Short film was won by Adi Malik (Modern School, BK Road) and runners up Shivansh Goyal (Jayshree Periwal International) and Naman Sonpar (TSMS ,Noida)
Orion is running by Jyotika & Nitin Dhawan. Their team consists of leading educators, philanthropists, psychologist, anthropologists, corporate leaders and AI experts. They are covered in media frequently for the path breaking work that we do & received an award on Equality and Diversity by Femina, Social Enterprise Award and Delhi management association- Social impact entrepreneur award very recently.
They help students become entrepreneurs, build solutions and campaigns on Social issues, mentored through their expert team and network of influencers and policy makers. The aim of the organization to create a sustainable improvement in society and equip students with the tools to bring about a change and stimulate action in social, economic & environment sustainability through Community service, Research projects & using AI for good. Orion also does SDG, Diversity and Inclusion sensitization of students through their interventions at schools.
Youth Impact 2020 is being organized for Delhi University at the end of the year so that more students are aligned to Sustainable development goals for India and become champions of change.
