DJIBOUTI: Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, took part in the Mediators Planning Retreat on Sudan, held in Djibouti with representatives from 32 countries and various regional and international organizations. The meeting focused on global initiatives and efforts to establish peace in Sudan and create a unified strategy.
In his opening address, Sheikh Shakhboot stressed the immediate need to halt violence and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. He emphasized the critical role of both regional and international efforts in devising effective solutions to help Sudan overcome its current challenges.
Sheikh Shakhboot highlighted the grave humanitarian crisis facing the Sudanese people, including the looming threat of famine. He called on the international community to intensify diplomatic and humanitarian actions to resolve the conflict and address its severe humanitarian impacts.
The UAE Minister of State also outlined the UAEâs tangible measures to alleviate humanitarian conditions in Sudan and its neighboring countries. He noted that since the conflict began in April 2023, the UAE has provided US$245 million in aid and established two field hospitals in Chad to support displaced Sudanese.
Reaffirming the UAE's commitment, Sheikh Shakhboot expressed support for all initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and resolving the crisis. He underscored the need for an immediate ceasefire and peaceful dialogue, asserting that there is no military solution to the conflict.
