JAMMU: The Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing (DEERS), EIACP J&K Hub, Government of J&K, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Sciences and Engineering, Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu, organized a special event today to commemorate International E-Waste Day under the global theme Recycling E-Waste – It’s Critical.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Jyoti Mahajan from the Department of Computer Sciences, followed by an enlightening and highly informative lecture by Associate Professor from IIT Jammu Dr. Pratik Kumar. He elaborated on the environmental impact and management strategies for electronic waste. Dr. Pratik emphasized the urgency of implementing effective e-waste recycling methods to mitigate its long-term environmental and health impacts.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Rajan Singh, EIACP Coordinator at DEERS, gave a comprehensive overview of e-waste management practices in Jammu & Kashmir. He discussed ongoing government initiatives and the role of stakeholders in promoting responsible disposal and recycling practices.
A symposium competition on the theme of the day was also organized, where students showcased their understanding and innovative ideas related to e-waste management. The winners were felicitated with certificates and prizes in recognition of their insightful contributions. The event witnessed participation from over 180 individuals, including students and faculty members. The first prize was bagged by Shiven Prashar, E&C Year-1st.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kirti, Program Officer, EIACP. Also in attendance were Range Officer Anil Sharma; Dr. PO Kirti Joshi, besides Nitin Sharma and Chetan Gupta from Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing.
