KUPWARA: The District Administration Kupwara, in coordination with the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction (DDMRRR), today organized a one-day Capacity Building Programme under Community-Based Disaster Management at the ACD Complex, Kupwara.

The programme was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kupwara.

The event witnessed active participation from a range of stakeholders, including Deputy Secretary, DDMRRR,  Snober Jameel; Assistant Commissioner Development Kupwara, Muzaffar Ahmad, BDOs, Panchayat Secretaries; ICDS workers; and other concerned officials.

The primary objective of the programme was to strengthen the capacities of grassroots functionaries and local communities in effective disaster preparedness, response, and mitigation. Emphasis was laid on the importance of community engagement, coordination among departments, and proactive planning to minimize disaster-related risks.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC highlighted the significance of empowering local communities and frontline workers to build resilience against natural and man-made disasters. He appreciated the efforts of the department in organizing the training and encouraged all participants to disseminate the knowledge gained at the community level.

The programme featured expert sessions, interactive discussions, and the dissemination of resource material designed to equip participants with essential skills and best practices in disaster management.
