SHOPIAN: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar today visited various areas of the district including Chitragam (Kalan), Babapora, Zainapora, Turkawangam, Gugloora, Trenz and Pinjora to assess the provision of seamless services following recent snowfall. He also assessed the snow clearance operations, and was intimated that all major and minor roads have been made through for traffic and efforts are on to widen the clearance wherever required.
The DC during his inspection found shopkeepers and residents at Gugloora and Pinjoora dumping snow on roads. He warned them to desist from such unpleasant behaviours posing risk to commuters. Shahid Saleem evaluated the effectiveness of snow-clearing measures enroute and interacted with residents of these areas to understand their concerns and responded positively for mitigating the concerns on priority.
The DC directed the officers to take strict action against individuals or establishments involved in obstructing roads by dumping snow carelessly. These measures aim to ensure smooth movement for vehicles and pedestrians while minimizing disruptions caused by snow accumulation. Many vehicles were found parked on roads which delayed the snow clearance process. The DC instructed for âno parking on roadsâ as it hampers snow clearance.
Even at some places there was no space left for ambulances to move as people had parked vehicles wrongly. During the visit, the involved persons in the dumping were asked to clear the road themselves and moral policing was done. The Administration is committed to maintaining essential services and addressing challenges posed by harsh weather conditions in the district, said DC during the visit while reviewing the provision of water, electricity, road connectivity and healthcare services. The DC was accompanied by DC ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone, ACR and other concerned during the visit.
