SHOPIAN: The District Sheep Husbandry, Shopian today organized a “Buyer–Seller Meet for Promotion of Wool” at the District Sheep Husbandry Complex, Shirmaal Shopian. The event, first of its kind in the district, aimed to provide a common platform for interaction among sheep farmers, breeders, traders, entrepreneurs, and wool-based Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to enhance wool trade and quality production.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Shopian, highlighted the department’s commitment to strengthening the wool sector through awareness, improved marketing linkages, and quality enhancement.
He emphasized the importance of adopting better management practices such as proper grading, cleaning, and maintaining good staple length through optimum two shearings annually to improve the quality and value of wool.
Participants appreciated the initiative of the department in organizing such an event for the benefit of wool producers and urged for similar interactions to be held regularly in the future to strengthen the wool value chain in the district.
The programme witnessed participation of the Sheep & Wool Development Officer, Technical Officer to DSHO, all Sheep Development Block Officers, officials of the department, wool-based FPO representatives, sheep farmers, wool growers, and traders.
