JAMMU: Science Club, in collaboration with Department of Botany and Eco Club, of Government College for Women Parade Ground Jammu celebrated International Ozone Day to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on the substances that deplete the ozone layer.
The event was held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo. The theme for the International Ozone Day 2025 is “From Science to Global Action” which highlights how scientific knowledge of ozone depletion led to global action. The theme emphasizes the continuing need for both scientific monitoring and international cooperation to protect the ozone layer.
The event started with the pledge in which students and faculty members took an oath to make efforts for the preservation of the ozone layer by promoting the use of ozone friendly goods and services. The program proceeded with the poster making competition, in which the students from different streams participated.
The participants expressed their ideas regarding the ozone conservation by making vibrant and colorful posters. Prof. Aasia Rashid Bhat, convener Science Club delivered the welcome address and highlighted the need of awareness about the conservation of the ozone layer.
A panel of judges including Prof. Anjali Abrol, Department of Chemistry and Prof. Bindu Kumari, Department of Botany evaluated the posters prepared by the participants. Both the jury members shared their ideas related to the ozone layer depletion and motivated the participants to use the ozone friendly products and contribute to the protection of the ozone layer.
The program successfully provided a platform for the students to explore, appreciate and express their ideas through the posters regarding the ozone layer protection. The event culminated with the prize distribution to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners. The Science Club Committee members, Dr. Harmanmeet Kour, Dr. Sarita Parihar, Dr. Usha Devi, Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed and Dr. Manjulla Gupta actively participated in organizing the event.
