BANDIPORA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora-1 marked World Soil Day 2025 today, with a significant programme held at the KVK Bandipora-1. The whole event focused on this year's important global topic, "Soil and Water: a Source of Life." It was all about showing how soil and water work together as two basic, life-giving parts of nature, while also recognizing the critical message of "Healthy soils for Healthy Cities."
The participation in the programme was robust, featuring farmers, dedicated field workers, and KVK staff members, all engaging in a vital dialogue focused on advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
Sr. Scientist and Head KVK Bandipora-1, Dr. Tariq Sultan, in his address, pointed out the urgent problems we face with the health of the soil in our district right now. He strongly urged the farming community to start using fertilizers based on proper soil test results. He remarked that we must stop the harmful farming methods that are weakening and damaging the soil structure.
On the occasion, the main part of the event was the chat session led by Dr. Nazir Ahmad Mir, who shared easy-to-follow steps that farmers can use right away in their fields. His advice centered on getting the right balance of nutrients, adding natural (organic) materials, and helping the tiny living things in the soil stay active and healthy. He clearly laid out what actions can make soil better and which bad habits must be avoided to keep the soil from getting ruined.
Participants were also made aware of modern topics like farming that handles climate change well, managing nutrients in a smart, complete way, and showing off current projects happening under various government schemes. During the program, the farmer raised their queries specific to their own fields and got straight answers from the experts.
