SHOPIAN: To curb the reported malpractice of certain local bread makers (nanwayis) and other traders selling traditional bread by short weight and using unverified weights and measures, the Legal Metrology Unit, Shopian, today conducted early morning inspections in Kiloora, Kravoora, and Muradpora villages of the district.

Inspection of nanwayis, milk sellers, and other traders selling edible items was conducted, during which 08 erring traders were booked for violation of various provisions of the Legal Metrology Act and rules.

In the current month, the Legal Metrology Unit Shopian has conducted numerous inspections and booked traders for violation of the Legal Metrology Act and realized a fine of Rs.80000 from erring traders.

During these inspections, 21 numbers of weights and measures were standardized by the team, thereby regularizing the good market practices. The business units were instructed to conform their business practices with the Act and warned of heavy penalties for violations.
