Massive investments, fair employment policies boost economic growth: Raman Suri

• Modi government reduced unemployment in J&K

JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Executive Member Raman Suri has lauded the BJP-led government at the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for its relentless efforts in reducing unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). He attributed this positive transformation to massive investments, transparent employment policies, and economic reforms that have revitalized various sectors.

Highlighting the findings of the latest Economic Survey Report, Suri emphasized that J&K is witnessing an era of unprecedented economic growth. He noted that the unemployment rate, which stood at 6.7% in 2019-20, has now declined to 6.1% in 2023-24, demonstrating a significant improvement in job opportunities across the region.

“The government’s policies have created an environment where both the private and government sectors are flourishing. The rise in the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) to 64.3% and the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) to 60.4% in 2023-24 is proof that employment opportunities are expanding,” said Suri.

He further highlighted that 40,778 self-employment units have been established, generating jobs for nearly 1.16 lakh youth, and that 35.28 lakh unorganized workers have been registered on the e-Shram portal in the current financial year.

Suri expressed his satisfaction over the fact that women and youth in J&K are now opting for self-employment instead of solely relying on government jobs. “The government’s economic policies are empowering people, leading to a self-reliant society,” he stated.

The BJP leader also praised the Union government for boosting the per capita income in J&K, which has now surpassed ₹1.5 lakh, outpacing neighboring states such as Punjab, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh. He further highlighted the remarkable progress in the agriculture sector, with food production growing by over 7%, signifying self-sufficiency in the region.

“The Modi government’s vision for Viksit Bharat is clearly visible in Jammu and Kashmir. Be it education, healthcare, tourism, industry, or communication, every sector is witnessing remarkable growth. These efforts will continue to ensure a prosperous future for the people of J&K,” Raman Suri said.
