SRINAGAR: In a remarkable display of collective spirit, a massive plantation drive was held today at Khimber under SEWA PARV 2025, uniting participants from every walk of life — universities, NIT Srinagar, colleges, schools, associations, the travel trade fraternity, lawyers, environmentalists, social activists, and volunteers.

The drive was graced by distinguished personalities alongside the Chief Guest, Waseem Raja, JKAS, Joint Director Tourism Kashmir, including SFA Gillani (IFS, Retd.), former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests J&K; Dr. Farooq A. Peer, former Secretary JKBOSE; Farooq Kuthoo, President TAAK; Social Activist Raja Muzaffar; GN Var, President PSAJK; Prof. M.A. Shah, Dean Alumni NIT Srinagar; Dr. Shahnawaz, University of Kashmir; Manzoor Pakhtoon, President KHBOA; Advocate Nadeem Qadri; Peerzada Faiyaz, State Convenor RTSOI; Mushtaq Reshi, President DTOAK; Burhan Misgar, Chairman TAFI; Er. Abdul Rashid, University of Kashmir; Nazir Wani, Vice President TAFOK; Bilal Kawosa, General Convenor PHD Chamber Kashmir; and Dr. S.A. Banday, Faculty SKUAST-K, besides faculty of NIT Srinagar, University of Kashmir, and school educators.

The event was jointly organised by JKLCMA and NLCO, in collaboration with , NIT Srinagar, JK Tourism, TAAK, TAFI, IATO, JKHC, NTTA, Green Valley School, Bilaliya Educational Institute, DTOAK, UTTA, TTIG, TAFOK, RTSOI, Crescent Public School, ATOAK, KHBOA, TAAI,  and Birla Open Minds School Pampore.Administering the SEWA PARV pledge, the Chief Guest, Waseem Raja, remarked “Environment is synonymous with tourism.

A greener Kashmir is the foundation of a sustainable tourism industry.” Joint director Tourism while praising the efforts of Manzoor Wangnoo & team NLCO asserted that concerted practical and focused efforts are needed to preserve our environment. He opined that civil society particularly the younger generation has to play a proactive role in this endeavor.The plantation witnessed overwhelming participation, particularly from BEI school students who enthusiastically joined hands with professors, teachers, and volunteers to plant hundreds of saplings across Khimber.

The drive symbolised a collective resolve to turn Khimber green and revive its natural heritage.On the occasion, Manzoor Wangnoo, Chairman NLCO, expressed gratitude to all collaborators and participants, especially the young students, “We all have to do our bit. Plant by plant, effort by effort, we can increase the green cover of Kashmir. Today’s drive proves that when people unite, nature heals.”The event concluded with renewed determination and a shared pledge to protect and expand Kashmir’s green spaces, ensuring a healthier environment and sustainable future.
