JAMMU: My Bharat an autonomous body under Department of Youth Affairs, MoYA&S is conducting Nation Wide Campaign Swachh Bharat Mission – Naya Sankalp with the theme of Swabhav Swachtta- Sanskar Swachtta in a mission mode with the spirit of Jan Bhagidhari se Jan andolan.
As a befitting tribute to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi ji and celebration of 10th year of Swachh Bharat Mission, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, J&K and Ladakh UTs under MoYAS, Govt of India has organized Swachtta hi Sewa Cleanliness campaign with the theme of Swachh Bharat mission –Naya Sankalp across the 20 district in J&K UT and 2 districts in Ladakh UT in coordination with Youth Clubs/ Mahila Mandal, social activists, Education Department, Youth Service and Sports Deptt and volunteers registered on My Bharat Portal.
The objectives of the programme is to Educate and generate Awareness on the significance of sanitation, hygiene and waste management and share best practices for maintaining cleanliness., to educate and generate awareness about the environmental and health impacts of single use plastics and to promote sustainable alternatives.
The programme commenced on 17th September and will be culminated on 2nd October – the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi ji which is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas. The target fixed for collection of waste and disposal around 1.66 lakh kg in J&K and Ladakh UTs.
The activities under the Swachh Bharat Mission gained momentum on the 9th day with NYKS organizing village-level activities in all the districts of the UTs of J&K and Ladakh. In both UTs, the event saw a tremendous public response with a large number of people and youth joining the campaign and conducting door-to-door campaigns, street cleaning, garbage collection, cleaning of iconic places, pledge-taking ceremonies, poster making, nukkad natak, etc.
246 blocks and 1205 villages were covered in J&K under this campaign. More than 60,000 Kg waste materials (Sup) were collected and disposed off during the campaign.
